This is why we put on the Fondo…
Things are looking up for the Gran Fondo. With only 6 weeks to go, you should have enough time to get in those secret trainings and smash whatever route you’ve signed up for.
Every route is going to test your legs, so you might as well be prepared!
For me? I’ve just come back from a regular Zappi Saturday club ride (that’s my training!) which are well-known throughout Oxfordshire for attracting big numbers week-in-week-out, and I feel more full of energy and encouragement than I’ve found myself experiencing these last few weeks. I’m not going to lie, organising a sportive is hard work. Even when the load is shared.
There is still a lot to do, but we are getting there. You’ll see in that we now have mechanical support sorted courtesy of two energetic guys from 2Wheels in Thame; Richard from Really Awesome Coffee will be ready to serve you the morning of the Fondo and when you’re back the pizza will be coming out of the wood-fired oven with Sole Luna Pizza.
We know you guys are really going to enjoy yourselves. If you haven’t yet signed up, sign up for the Fondo here. You won’t regret it.
But today I wanted to share with you why we commit ourselves to this organizational-event-planning-chaos each year. We do it for these guys!
We do it for our club members! With over 200 active members and nearly 1,500 people around the world in our Facebook group, Zappi’s is one big famiglia when we’re out on the bike.
At the heart of everything we do for the Fondo: including planning the routes and securing sponsors to making sure our goody bags are chalk full of good stuff, it’s because we want to celebrate what being part of Zappi’s Cycling Club means.
If you live in Oxford you will see us out and about and throughout the countryside enjoying the roads that make up our sportive. We are cyclists, of every ability and interest and we like going fast as much as we like what being on the bike brings us: an excuse to eat cake! 😉
It’s definitely more about than just cake – there’s quality coffee to be had at Zappi’s Cafe! No, being serious for a second, Zappi’s was founded with three key ingredients in the mix:
- Italian passion
- Pushing ourselves to be better on the bike; and
- the support that comes from being a member when we want to go faster.
This is what you will find on Oct. 18th at this year’s Fondo, and we will welcome you with open arms!
